Iran’s Exports to Africa Double in the First Half of the Year

The Acting Head of the Africa Desk at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran announced a 100 percent increase in non-oil exports to African markets during the first half of the current year, along with plans to hold the Africa Summit in Azar 1405 (December 2026). He said the achievement reflects Iran’s growing position in Africa’s high-capacity market of 1.4 billion people.

Mohammadreza Safari, outlining the details of Iran’s trade relations with African countries, stated that Iran’s exports to Africa reached USD 675 million in the first six months of 1404 (2025)double the figure recorded in the same period last year.

Describing the growth as a major success, Safari added: “This export volume already accounts for nearly 80 percent of Iran’s total exports to Africa in the entire previous year. We hope to achieve an unprecedented record by the end of the year—one not seen in the past decade.”

Africa: A Large and High-Potential Market

Referring to sanctions and the current international environment, Safari described Africa as a vast and high-potential market for Iranian traders, noting that many businesses, following recent developments, are seeking new export destinations.

“With a population of 1.4 billion, Africa represents an enormous market for a wide range of Iranian products,” he said, adding that the continent can serve as a highly suitable alternative market.

Joint Presence and Production as a Successful Model

The Acting Head of the Africa Desk cited the successful approach adopted by Asian countries such as China and Türkiye, describing joint presence and co-production with African companies as an effective model.

“We must move in this direction as well,” he said. “Given the sanctions environment, we can propose new cooperation mechanisms such as barter trade to our African partners. Some African countries, facing similar constraints, have shown strong interest in cooperating with Iran.”

High-Level Coordination and Africa Summit Plans

Safari also referred to the formation of the Eighth Session of the Africa Task Force within the government, noting that it convenes with the participation of the First Vice President and 13 ministers.

He added that under the Economic Commission—overseen by his office—eight specialized committees have been established, focusing on key areas such as maritime shipping, air transportation, credit-line allocation, and agricultural development.

In closing, Safari announced plans to hold the Africa Summit in 1405 (2026), noting that the final decision will be made at the next meeting of the Africa Task Force.

“Preparations have already begun,” he said.
